I have made this very same argument more than once, and the response, posted on that very same Internet, powered by utilities etc., was that our government services were an disastrous wasteland that was absolutely unsafe, evil, dysfunctional, and a theft of his tax dollars. How does one argue with that?

I say we start with a Land-Holds for Randroids program: We offer $1000 is Gold Krugerands, an AR-15 and Glock 19 with ammunition and a free one-way flight with 1000lbs. of household goods to the wilderness Puntland Somalia. They get an absolute amnesty from all tax burdens for as long as they stay there and stop posting about American politics online. I think it would be money well spent.

Yeah... consent is overrated.

The fact that I caught some spillover value out of the expenditure of the exceedingly large quantity of money forcibly extracted from me, clearly renders null and void any negative opinion regarding the ethical validity of that extraction or preference that it not increase in scale.

No. This line of argument strikes me as similar to asserting that rape is good because the victim gets laid out of it.

It's not original. Someone copy-pasted the same thing to a thread in [ profile] seattle a few days ago.

I see holes in the logic and don't completely agree, but overall it's well-said.

I have seen similar bits in the past, but the fact it was posted in /b/ make me chuckle.
